Josh works predominantly with acrylic on canvas, creating contemporary abstract interpretations of the Australian landscape. His paintings are defined by bold contrasts—dramatic skies layered over rugged terrain—and a thoughtful mix of complementary colours and calming neutrals, resulting in works that feel both striking and balanced. A distinctive straight horizon line appears across his two main styles, anchoring each composition.Drawing inspiration from the vastness of Australia rather than specific locations, Josh paints intuitively, allowing emotion, memory and atmosphere to guide his process. His signature blended skies are central to his artworks, adding depth and movement while reflecting his personal connection to the landscape. Although the land serves as a reference point, it is the energy he pours into each piece that gives his art its sense of magic, inviting viewers to experience their own emotional response. His artworks often convey a feeling of home and shift in tone depending on his mindset at the time of creation. Music is also integral to his practice, with every painting named after a song that influenced or accompanied its development. Using techniques such as staining, bleeding, blending and leafing—together with brushes, palette knives and textural tools—Josh brings vibrancy, mood and unique character to every canvas.
