Big Title
Tracey has been creating since childhood and most enjoys when she is in that childlike space as she layers paint, clay or found objects to represent the natural world and her experience of it. For Tracey, self and the natural world are inextricably linked and she finds herself and her light during time in nature and the quiet contemplation and joy of creating. This for her, can be a spiritual experience.
Tracey is influenced by the impressionist painters in their use of light and colour. She loves the skies of Turner. Monet and Pisarro are influential in their style and use of colour. She uses acrylic and oils to develop layered images. Sometimes found objects or printmaking techniques are incorporated for additional layers, texture and exploration of self, nature and identity.
In her ceramics practice, Tracey uses handbuilding techniques to have close contact with material and form. Her rustic preferences are shown in the choice of heavily grogged raku clay which is minimally glazed to allow the natural qualities of the clay to shine through. She lived in Japan and is strongly influenced by Japanese artistic style, and ceramics techniques. This is seen in the forms and earthy qualities of her work, along with techniques such as kurinuki (carving into a block of clay) to create her forms.
